ESSEC Business School, France

Since its creation in 1907, ESSEC has pursued its initial vocation of training executives aware of the economic and social issues. Today, ESSEC is a French top Business School welcoming 3900 students onto 3 campuses in Paris and Singapore.

ESSEC has been a pioneer in the promotion of social entrepreneurship in France as it was the first business school to create a department specialised in social business in 2003. The objectives are to raise the students’ understanding of the main issues this sector deals with and to give them all the tools to develop the strategic, managerial and entrepreneurship skills to be “social entrepreneurs”.

The Social Entrepreneurship Center has developed different activities:

  • Teaching for students and for professionals (about 200 alumni)
  • Applied research, in collaboration with the Center’s business partners
  • Social innovations in the fields of educative engineering, an audit methodology to evaluate non profits’ governance and transparency, and many more projects that are to be set up in the next years.
  • Antropia, a social incubator and philanthropic venture capital fund created in 2008 in partnership with a French bank to support the launch of social innovations by new social entrepreneurs. It aims at offering a strategic, technical, logistical and financial support to innovate social entrepreneurs.

In 2009-10, ESSEC will host the first Francophone Regional Semi-Finals as a European Regional Partner.  For more information on GSVC at ESSEC, please visit: http://gsvc.entrep-social.chair.essec.edu/home
